Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre (WWPT) and Situation Brewing Announce:

(ARCHIVE, DEADLINE HAS PASSED) Final Draft: The 54-Word Playwriting Competition

Are you up for a lager than life challenge?

Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre and Situation Brewing invite Alberta playwrights to submit 54-word plays to the Final Draft Playwriting Competition. The winning selected plays will be featured on the labels of Situation Brewing’s new beer: Final Draft, which will be distributed throughout the province starting March 2023.

Since 1978 Workshop West has been developing and producing new Canadian plays for Edmonton audiences. We’re all about the power of local and championing Albertans and Alberta artists.

Situation Brewery is a popular Edmonton based micro-brewery located in the heart of Old Strathcona a few hops, skips, and jumps away from Workshop West’s Gateway Theatre. It's a perfect match.

The Final Draft Playwriting competition is the result of what happens when creatives come together to make new things happen. It is a celebration of the unique and wonderful possibilities that await us when local artists and artisans collaborate.

COMPETITION GUIDELINES

  • Your play really needs to be no longer than 54 words (really) - including the title, the playwright (you), and all the character names.

  • Your play can be of any genre or style as long as it is an original work.

  • We’re looking for micro plays that are fun, dangerous, hilarious, outrageous, daring, provocative and/or anything else you can think of to enliven those oh-so important conversations that happen over a great Alberta craft brew.

  • You’ll win bragging rights, fun photo ops, and the unequalled social clout. Let’s face it, seeing your writing on a can of Alberta craft beer? It’s priceless.

Deadline: Passed!
