Our Engagements to Inclusion and Anti-Oppression
Workshop West prioritizes engaging artists from equity seeking demographics at all levels of our organization.
This is a critical time when we have opportunities to harness the wave of Canadian cultural change, lifting-up a multiplicity of Canadian experiences so that we can see the power and unity in our difference, evolving thinking around social change. Our commitments to fostering inclusivity are not only a priority but remain central to our work, reflecting the rich tapestry of Canadian culture.
We advance equity, diversity and inclusion, through the following action items:
1.
WWPT maintains equity as the core principle leading strategic planning, organisational discussions, and programming decisions.
2.
WWPT engages in Anti-Oppression training as an organization, and works to activate inclusivity-forward mindsets.
Workshop West has continued to prioritize engaging under-represented artists and will continue to create opportunities for equity-seeking communities at all levels of our organization.
3.
WWPT regularly reviews its policies and processes (formal and informal) through the lens of equity to identify areas of potential bias.
4.
WWPT recruits board members, staff, contractors, and volunteers who are reflective of the community, and strives to engage similarly diverse donors and sponsors.
We actively prioritize the assessment of staff and board demographics- and hiring processes at large- through voluntary self-identification tools and external review. The annual results of this continual evaluation are linked as follows for previous seasons, and displayed below for the most recent (2023-24) season.
From its beginnings, WWPT has celebrated local stories, nurtured artists, and created unique spaces for cultural exchange. We are proud to play a vital role in the ecology of our province, shining a light on Alberta writers and creators.
5.
WWPT regularly evaluates and verifies the success of its inclusivity efforts in considering perpetual improvement.
