An exciting addition to our season as a fundraiser you won’t want to miss!

Keith Alessi returns home to share the exceptional true story of leaving his corporate job here in Edmonton behind to follow his true passion —playing the banjo!

Faced with a diagnosis of cancer, Keith’s secret dream became the transformative key to saving his life. With sold out runs from the Edinburgh Festival to Off Broadway you won’t want to miss this heartwarming, true story that has captivated audiences internationally.

Tomatoes Tried to Kill Me But Banjos Saved My Life isn’t just a show, it’s a cause.

A heartfelt passion project that began as a nudge after Keith Alessi’s life took a major turn, it has been his mission to raise money for causes close to his heart. Through donations, including 100% of all artist fees, the show has raised over $970,000 as of March 2024 for various cancer, community, music, and theatre charities.

Why Heather chose Tomatoes Tried To Kill Me But Banjos Saved My Life

“Keith was neither an actor nor a musician, and his journey to the stage was a highly improbable one. This show is a reflection of the power and purpose our stories can have when we share them with the world in an authentic and honest way. That’s what we are all about at WWPT - helping writers tell the stories of this time and place - and so we are thrilled to share Keith’s story with you as a special fundraising event in support of WWPT.”

-Heather Inglis,
Artistic Producer, WWPT
