WWPT’s 46th season opens with the World Premiere of Stars on Her Shoulders by Stephen Massicotte.
From the author of the award winning Canadian Classic Mary's Wedding, comes a new play about what it means to be a hero.
In May 1918, a Canadian hospital at Doullens, France was struck by a single bomb dropped by a German plane. Two Canadian nurses dig through the night to sort the dead from the survivors. Neither woman would ever be the same again. A story of enduring friendship, courage, and hope that will stay with you long after you leave the theatre.
This award-winning Edmonton creative team features Hayley Moorhouse, Meegan Sweet, Gabby Bernard, and Dayna Lea Hoffmann, with Dana Wylie making her return to the theatrical stage!

Read About the Play…
“Every once in a while you find yourself in the theatre fully absorbed in a world that’s both distant and utterly close at hand.”
“To see the war experiences of women on stage or screen is rare, and so Stephen Massicotte’s Stars on Her Shoulders feels ferociously fresh…”

Why Heather chose Stars on Her Shoulders
“Stephen Massicotte is one of Canada’s most significant writers. His plays have an epic quality which places them in time and somehow beyond it. We were thrilled when he came to us to develop this stunning new play and when we read it at the Springboards New Play Festival in March 2023 it brought down the house. Stars on Her Shoulders is a play about women and activism and Queerness, but on a deeper level it is also a play about more primal experiences—longing, loneliness, and our drive to find a place to belong.”
